MEDIATION
God is spirit,
and we must worship in spirit and truth.
But the immaterial belongs to a world
that I can neither taste nor smell, hear nor see.
I've never been invited to touch
the wounds left by nails or thorns.
Our Mediator has entered
the most holy place and
intercedes on our behalf,
somewhere beyond my grasp.
But these I know.
The taste of lamb and rosemary,
the smell of rain after it has passed,
the sound of an upright piano,
my bride's face, and the warmth of her touch.
Perhaps this too is mediation—
that He meets me as He made me.
